100.000 B.C. The first humans in Denmark
5000 B.C. Denmark's present shape of landscape is grounded.
2500 B.C. The farmer gains ground.
500 B.C. Villages are established.
800-1000 The Viking Age with plundering expeditions to England and the European continent.
985 Denmark's birth certificate, the Jelling rune stones, is erected by Harald Blåtand, who turned the Danes to Christianity.
1157 Denmark is a united empire. The viking chiefs are appointed kings
1539 The reformation. The Protestant religious community is grounded.
1660-1834 The absolutism with all power to the king and the nobility
1849 Denmark's first constitution where the power is divided into three, the legislative, the executive and the judiciary. Bicameral parliamentary.
1900-1910 The first political parties are formed.
1920 After World War I, North Schleswig is reunited with Denmark after a vote
1945 The 4th of May is the day of liberation of Denmark after World War II.
1949 Denmark joins the Atlantic Pact (Nato)
1953 The 5th of June, Denmark's second constitution, which is valid today, is approved
1972 King Frederik IX dies, and Margrethe II is inaugurated
1973 Denmark joins the EC
1992 Denmark wins the European Championship in football
1993 Denmark accedes the Maastricht Treaty and changes in the EU
1996 Bjarne Riis wins the Tour de France
1997 The Great Belt Bridge is opened on the 1st of June
2000 The Oresund Bridge is opened on the 1st of June
