Skagen - the northernmost point of the European mainland

Skagen is the town with lovely yellow houses with red tile roofs and the cosy harbour, home of great Danish painters and famous for its special clear light.

When you are standing on the "Grenen" in Sakgen, the northernmost point of the European mainland, you get the special experience to see the North and the Baltic Sea clash. Here you have the unique opportunity to stand with one foot in each of the two seas. You will also discover that the firmament is higher and wider than any other place. It is the reflection of the light which gives this special sensation of space. And it is this special light which has attracted painters to Skagen since the end of the 19th century.

The Skagen area offers miles-on-end of finest, white, wide sandy beaches, where you experience the North Sea as the rough and roaring contrast to the mild and child friendly Baltic Sea. When the wind is right you might be lucky to find a piece of the "Gold of the North", amber. At the local amber polishers you are able to get your find converted into lovely pices of jewelry.

From most beaches you are able to fish directly from the shore or you can choose to pay a visit to one of the many put & take fishing lakes in the area. All over the beaches and in the dunes you can also run into old bunkers from the 2nd World War.
