Vacation in a holiday home on Fanø

Fanø beach

Right off the coast of Jutland lies the beautiful island Fanø.

In Esbjerg the two ferries "FENJA" and "MENJA" are waiting to sail you to the island in about 10 minutes. A clean environment and the sheer endless skies and the sea are characteristic for Fanø. The island is absolutely unique. A marvelous piece of island culture, where everything - the light, the air, the life - is totally different. Fanø has a wide variety of opportunities to enjoy outdoor life. Among others the exceptional nature with the wide open of ericaclad heath interchanging with the wavy dune landscape and forests. Here you can enjoy life all year long - in the summer or winter sun with a fresh sea breeze.

After just 12 minutes sailing time by ferry from Esbjerg you reach the island and are met by the unique culture of Fanø and the lovely, well preserved villages of Nordby and Sønderho, where you can stroll for hours and just enjoy the special atmosphere, go shopping or taste the local delicacies like "Bakskuld" (salted, dried and cold smoked dab), "Sakkuk" a kind of pudding, which is served as a side dish with meat and the famous open sandwiches "smørrebrød".

The atmosphere on Fanø is absolutely unique and has its roots in proud traditions, tales and the interaction of humans and nature. The island has been inhabited since year 1200 and was through the 19th century a proud shipping island, where the beautiful, old Fanø houses where inhabited by ship owners, captains and others who worked in shipping. The traditions still thrive today, where many of the 3.500 permanent residents on the island are employed in shipping.
