Vacation in a holiday home in Tønder

Tønder - a lively place of trade
Tønder has always been a lively place of trade and between the Middle Ages and renaissance, Tønder played an important role as a landing port for cattle and horses.
During the 18th century lace made Tønder a household name throughout the world. No less than 12.000 lace makers were employed in the Tønder area and the many wealthy lace traders built lovely patrician houses, which still today decorate the city with its beautiful portals.
After the Danish/Prussian wars in 1864 Tønder went under Prussian rule. Only after the German defeat in World War I. a referendum was held in Southern Denmark and Northern Germany in order to clarify the national affilliation of the region. Tønder was reunited with Denmark, but the proximity to the german border is still noticeable today. Among others there is a german school, kindergarten, library and a German priest.
Arrild Ferieby
In this area close to Tønder you find Arrild Ferieby, which is located in very beautiful and lush nature. This gives you both a feeling of a lovely environment and to be far away from everyday life.
The location is ideal, right in the heart of Southern Jutland and the distance to landmarks and attractions is always very short. When the weather allows it, we recommend a day at the beach on the island of Rømø, which can be reached from the main land over a dam and is well known for its fantastic sandy beaches.
In this region you will also find great opportunities to go shopping and also breathe in the special atmosphere in the historic market towns of Ribe, Tønder and Aabenraa.
