All year around it is a pleasure to go bathing in different swimming pools, which are heated geothermically. They exist almost everywhere both in- and outdoors. You can also go swimming in the nature in hot springs, streams, grottos and lakes.

Icelandhorses
To go horseback riding on an Iceland horse is a fun experience. Also inexperienced riders can try their skills, because the horses have a very relaxed temperament and are easy to handle. There is a wide selction of farms where you can rent horses on an hourly or daily basis. The Iceland horses originally came to Iceland with the vikings and they have the special feature, that they can walk in 5 different gaits: In addition to the three basic gaits, stride, trot and gallop, which all horse races are considered to master, Iceland horses also have the disposition of two additional gaits - the pleasant "tölt" and the rapid "pas". Due to their pleasant temperament, the horses are very family friendly and are very famous outside Iceland.
But it is nonetheless a special experience to ride an Iceland horse in its home country!
Fishing trips in lakes, the ocean and through the ice
Iceland is an angler's paradise and iceland is world famous for its population of salmon and trout. On Iceland you can also find fish in the winter. Ice fishing has recently become a very popular leisure sport.
"Whale Watching"
In recent years there has been a growing interest in whale watching on Iceland. Numerous tour operators offer trip to observe whales on close range, which is a unique opportunity for an unforgetable experience. Grab the chance!
Midnight sun and the fair nights on Iceland
In the winter the day time in Reykjavik only lasts for 4½ hours. In Isafjördur the sun is only up for 3 hours, but during the summer the sun is shinning for 20 to 24 hours a day. In the northern part of the country, especially on the island of Grimsey, the midnight sun can be experienced, if the weather gods allow it. Unfortunately the midnight sun does not warm that much, so warm clothes are recommended.
The Blue Lagoon
One of the biggest tourist attractions on Iceland is the "Blue Lagoon", which is located directly at the airport. It is one of the great wonders of nature and simply one of the places you have to experience when going on holiday on Iceland. Surrounded by black lava stones lies a blue lake. Its clean water, rich on minerals, is heated geothermically and has healing effect. The lagoon is located on volcanic active area, where tectonic plates are moving away from each other.
