Nice to know before your holiday on Iceland

Entry regulations
You need to own a valid passport or indentity card when entering Iceland.
Language
Icelandic is a Nordic language, which barely differs from the original language of the first settlers. Almost everywhere fluent is English is spoken. Icelandic has two additional letters: Þ/þ which is pronounced like th in "thing" and Ð/ð, pronounced like th i "them".
Currency
The Icelandic currency is called ”króna” (=crown). In all Icelandic banks you can change foreing currencies. The opening hours are normally Monday to Friday from 09.15 to 16.00. You will find cash dispensers, for credit card use, at the airports and all larger cities.
Telephone
Direct dialing is possible throughout the country. The country code for calls to Iceland is 00354.
Mobile phones
The mobile services providers on Iceland, Síminn og Vodafone, covers most of the island and villages with a population of more than 200. Both providers offer pre-paid phone cards. The cards can be purchased at all petrol stations.
Climate conditions and clothing
The Gulfstream causes a moderate, pleasantly refreshing climate on the island. The summers are cool/chilly and winters are mild. Weather conditions can change very rapidly, clothing must be warm and watertight and don't forget good hiking boots.
