Holidays in Croatia

- an exciting holiday destination for all ages

Although Croatia is one of Europe's smallest countries, few similar nations have such varied countryside and offer and so many contrasting landscapes within such a short distance. Here, you will find mountains, small, flower-decked hills, idyllic bays and peaceful lagoons, surrounded by green stone pine woods, as well as wonderful beaches, turquoise blue sea and crystal clear water. This varied geography means Croatia is ideal for active visitors who want to do more than swim and sunbathing. Climbing, diving, sailing, fishing and hunting are all popular activities, while wellness holidays are also popular.

Croatia has the longest coastline in the Mediterranean with more than 1,185 smaller and larger islands dotting the coast like pearls on a string. Out of all these islands only 67 are inhabited, but many of the smaller islands can be reached by ferry or car at low tide.

If you move inland from the Adriatic coast, you will be rewarded with some extremely charming countryside. Favourite destinations include the forests around Lika, the beautiful national park at Plitvice with its many lakes and waterfalls, Slavonia, Croatia’s breadbasket, and the small winding roads and the beautiful hills and valleys of Hrvatska Zagorje.

In the coastal areas, the Croatian climate is typically Mediterranean with a long, hot, dry summer. The average temperature from May to October is between 25 and 30 degrees, and the water temperature is approx. 20 – 25 degrees. A mild breeze from the sea ensures that the heat is not too uncomfortable. Furthermore the country has more than 2,600 hours of sunshine each year!

If culture is high on your list, Croatia has a lot to offer. The locals are known for their friendliness and hospitality and the country is full of well-preserved art treasures, picturesque cobbled Middle Age town squares, and smaller towns with cafés and small bars with exciting spicy food on offer. Specialities include fresh fish and shellfish together with excellent local wine –at very reasonable prices.

Some like to say that Croatia is a perfect mixture of Spanish hot climate, Italian charm and culture together, and Eastern European hospitality. However and whenever you choose to visit, Croatia is a country that you can easily fall in love with.
