Sun over dansommer
When the company changed its name to the more internationally sounding dansommer, it also gained its distinctive logo of a happy, shining sun. "The sun reflects light, happiness, warmth, friendship, Scandinavian style, holidays and expectations,” says Niels Nymark, who himself sat in the office taking bookings until 1990. ”It is precisely in this way that we want our customers to experience dansommer”.
Nymark’s personal approach is characteristic of one of the company’s most important resources –its employees.
dansommer "discovers" luxury holiday homes
As well as retaining a personal approach, we also place much weight on listening carefully to our guests’ requirements – a philosophy dating back to the 1980´s when preferences shifted away from basic, low-cost holiday homes to better quality homes in a higher price class. As something of an experiment, dansommer entered into an agreement in 1985 with four private holiday homeowners to offer customers a choice of luxurious holiday homes on the west coast of Jutland, all with heated indoor swimming pools. We soon discovered that many holidaymakers were delighted that such luxurious residences were available, and since then, top-of-the-range homes have become one of our staple products. dansommer ’discovered’ this particular form of holiday in Scandinavia and has been the market leader ever since. We have been able to retain this position ever since, not least because we continue to give top priority to the wishes of our customers.
Expansion into Norway, Sweden, France and Germany
In 1991 dansommer entered the Norwegian market for high quality holiday homes, and in 1998 luxury homes, including homes with swimming pools, also became a staple part of our product in Sweden. Since importing the ’pool house’ concept to both Norway and Sweden, dansommer’s success in Danish luxury holiday home rentals has repeated itself in both nations.
New ownership and new organisation
In August 2001 the company changed hands. Niels Nymark, founder and owner since 1976, chose to relinquish overall control by allowing a merger with NOVASOL AS. Right from the start it was decided to merge administration, IT, rental services and service offices, while both well-known brands continued independent operations in the areas of sales and homeowner services. In spring 2002 ownership changed hands again, when the then-owner Polaris sold the merged company to the American travel and property concern Wyndham Worldwide.
New concepts and product lines
In recent years, dansommer’s product line has expanded in both quality and quantity. We have, through merging with sister company NOVASOL, gained a large number of high quality holiday homes across Europe, and have also developed a number of new and exciting products such as ”Fashionable Country Houses”, ”Hygge Houses” and ”Business Houses”. We continue to see our mission as striving to be a dynamic and innovative force in the holiday home rental industry.
Today, dansommer can offer more than 33,000 holiday homes all across Europe!
